Differences between the Dance Styles

There are many different styles of dance, and in order to know what you would like to pursue, you must know the differences.
  • Lyrical- for lyrical you should half soles or lyrical shoes. This kind of dance is a cross between ballet, modern, and contemporary. in this style you are supposed to dance to the words of the song.
  • Contemporary- For this, you wear half soles or lyrical shoes. Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

  • Modern- For this, you dance without shoes. It is a free, expressive style of dancing started in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical ballet. In recent years it has included elements not usually associated with dance, such as speech and film.

  • Pointe-Pointe is the same as ballet, except you wear a different kind of shoe. This is for very experienced dancers, because if not properly prepared, injuries may occur for the dancer.

  • Tap-A dance performed wearing shoes fitted with metal taps, characterized by the rhythmical tapping of the toes and heels.

  • Ballet- For this wear ballet slippers. It is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology.
